These two buildings on N. Henry St. at Iota Ct., both contributing to the Langdon St. federal Historic District would be demolished under the proposal.
Owners of three contributing buildings in the Langdon Street Historic District have proposed to demolish them and build a single massive new development in their place. While new development is important and necessary in Madison, our Downtown Plan is clear and consistent that new development in the Langdon St. area take place on appropriate parcels where it would replace “non-contributing, blighted housing,” and that it be “compatible with the historic context, in scale and design.” The proposal has been rejected by the Landmarks Commission and the Urban Design Commission, but the owners may now be taking the proposal directly to the Common Council in an effort to bypass the recommendations of these Commissions.
